The Severinghaus Report - Proof Nonin has the Leading Pulse Oximetry Technology
In September 2005, an Independent study was commissioned by Dr Severinghaus at the UCSF Independent Hypoxia Research Lab, which compared Nonin’s Pulse Oximeter Signal Processing Technology against two other leading pulse oximeter manufacturers. SpO2 readings were obtained from a Nonin PureSAT Pulse Oximeter and the latest available models from two other leading manufacturers.

Nonin’s PureSAT technology was PROVEN to offer the best overall accuracy in terms of Root Mean Squared (RMS). In the critical lower saturation ranges, the Nonin Product had the smallest standard deviation, and showed less variability from the co-oximeter results than the other two products tested. This clearly demonstrates the Accuracy offered by the combination of Nonin’s PureLight Sensors and PureSAT technology.

The New Severinghaus Report - Motion Tolerance with Low Perfusion
A second independent study had now also been completed. The purpose of this second study was to compare the accuracy of Nonin PureSAT Signal Processing Technology against the “gold standard” of co-oximetry during patient motion. Additionally,
comparative accuracy data under the same conditions was obtained from a current model of another leading “next generation” pulse oximetry manufacturer, who also make high claim for accuracy and motion tolerance. Data was obtained from human subjects using a standard desaturation protocol at the UCSF Hypoxia Research Laboratory in San Francisco California. For motion testing, rubbing and tapping motions were created by means of an industry wide accepted protocol for generating motion.

Results of the above testing demonstrate that the Nonin PureSAT Signal Processing Technology was the most accurate over all tested levels of saturation during patient motion.

The Nonin data is consistent with previously published non-motion data, assuring the user of consistent, quality information for motion or non-motion conditions alike EVEN at low perfusion levels.

The Nonin Performance Difference
NONIN’s PureSAT Signal Processing Technology provides superior oxygen saturation and pulse rate data through its proven ability to distinguish “real” pulses from motion artifact. NONIN PureSAT makes greater use of the most valuable pulse signal waveforms by decreasing the occurrence of false desaturation events and false alarms. Through identification of the best and most reliable signals on a pulse-by-pulse basis, users are provided with accurate information and the fastest response time to physiological changes.

NONIN’s PureLight Sensor Technology provides only the purest red and infrared LEDs to create unparalleled accuracy – especially at critical SpO2 levels. NONIN’s PureLight LEDs hold a steady calibration curve, even at SpO2 levels below 80%, where reliable information is even more critical. PureLight LEDs also hold their performance consistantly over a long period of time. You can have confidence in PureSAT sensor’s accuracy and also the fact that PureSAT sensors last longer for the lowest life costs.

The combination of the NONIN PureSAT Signal Processing Technology and PureLight Sensor Technology provides a highly responsive and precise system for accurate and reliable readings, even under the most challenging patient conditions.

The graphs to the above illustrate the correlation of SpO2 data to the SaO2 data as measured by co-oximetry...

...Quite clearly, Nonin’s graph shows a much better correlation of data with less anomalies when compared with “System B”
